Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the lady who we all know as one of the four friends, Elaine Benes from the famous sitcom ‘Seinfeld’ is from a well known family. Julia is basically of French Jewish descent and was born to Judith, a writer and special needs tutor, and Gérard Louis-Dreyfus, a French-Jewish attorney and business executive. When she was one year old her parents divorced each other and Julia moved on to Washington D.C. with her mother. Both her parents remarried and she feels that her step parents are equally important to her as her biological parents. Julia has spent her childhood days in various countries like Sri Lanka, Colombia and Tunisia because of her step father’s work with Project HOPE. Julia attended Holton-Arms School in Bethesda, Maryland from where she graduated in 1979, she further went on to attend Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she took up theater. She was also a member of the Delta Gamma sorority, there.
Julia started off with her professional career with Saturday Night Live in 1982, she was a cast member of SNL till 1985. While on the sets of SNL she met Larry David the writer of the Seinfeld, she was later on added to the series, though originally she was not going to be a part of the series. In the series ‘Seinfeld’ she plays the part of Elaine Benes and is best known for the same. In the Seinfeld, she plays an important character and is given lots of importance being the only girl.
After Seinfeld came to an end in 1998, she started with a new sitcom ‘Watching Elle’, which soon got cancelled. Currently, she is working on ‘The New Adventures of Old Christine’ which has been received well by the audiences. She has done a four episode guest role in ‘Arrested Development’ and also appeared on Larry David’s show ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’. In the animation series ‘The Simpsons’ she has given the voice for Snake’s girlfriend, Gloria for three episodes. In 2006, the actress retuned to host Saturday Night Live.
The actress has also won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Seinfeld. She won the same award again in 2006 for her role in The New Adventures of Old Christine. She won five Screen Actors Guild Awards for her work in Seinfeld and a Golden Globe Award in 1994 as Best Supporting Actress in a Series.
Coming down to her personal life the actress is married to Brad Hall, whom she met while both were attending Northwestern University. They also worked together on the Saturday Night Live. The couple also made their feature film debut together with the fantasy horror movie ‘Troll’, where they played a couple. The couple together has two boys.
